About

Laura J Fitzwilson

Called “an irrefutably savage writer” by Self-Publishing Review, Laura (she/they) specialises in speculative fiction with a focus on people. Her debut novel, The Fool, was released in 2025 to positive commercial response. The Fool was a finalist in the 2025 Wishing Shelf Awards, and the 2026 Indieverse Awards (Book of the Year category). It was a Genre Winner in the 2026 Books Shelf Awards.

She completed her Bachelor of Arts with Distinction (double-majoring in Literature and Creative Writing) in 2020 at Federation University. Her short story “All My Tuesdays” was shortlisted for the 2022 Aurealis Awards and her short story “20,000 Watt Lightbulb” received a Certificate of Recognition from the 2024 Minds Shine Bright Confidence Writing Competition.

She’s also a devoted reader and a prolific crafter, with a new hobby at least every 6 months. She’s queer, disabled and wouldn’t want to be anyone else. She writes from Wadawarrung Country in regional Victoria, Australia with the help of her husband, a dog and two cats. It is her life’s aspiration to write as fearlessly as the Fast and Furious writers do.

Laura is a member of the Australian Society of Authors and Writers Victoria.

Note: I’ve been receiving a large number of spam emails that are using generative AI to talk up my writing, so to help me with distinguishing scam from real, I’d advise including information from within my book itself, as genAI seems to be relying on summaries and reviews at the moment. Even better, a link to a genuine website or social media of yours!
