About

Laura J Fitzwilson

Called “an irrefutably savage writer” by Self-Publishing Review, Laura specialises in speculative fiction with a focus on people. Her debut novel, The Fool, was released in 2025 to positive commercial response. The Fool was a finalist in the 2025 Wishing Shelf Awards and the 2026 Indieverse Awards (Book of the Year category).

She completed her Bachelor of Arts with Distinction (double-majoring in Literature and Creative Writing) in 2020 at Federation University. Her short story “All My Tuesdays” was shortlisted for the 2022 Aurealis Awards.

She’s also a devoted reader and a prolific crafter, with a new hobby at least every 6 months. She’s queer, disabled and wouldn’t want to be anyone else. She writes from Wadawarrung Country in regional Victoria, Australia with the help of her husband, a dog and two cats. It is her life’s aspiration to write as fearlessly as the Fast and Furious writers do.

Laura is a member of the Australian Society of Authors and Writers Victoria.
